Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Clinical Instructor

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner: New York State Nurse Practitioner license.  MSN or completion of a course for Nurse Practitioner and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care, Adult Health, Family Health or Gerontology.  One year of nursing experience.  

Physician Assistant: Bachelor's degree and graduation from an accredited school for Physician Assistants.  NYS PA license and NCCPA certification as PA, ACLS (pending is okay). 6 months of recent experience treating patients in an ED, urgent care or physician's office.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum one year of ED or urgent care experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Clinical Instructor-Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department and Emergency Department Clinical Decision Unit (Observation) in collaboration with Emergency Medicine attending physician.  The Clinical Instructor-Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will instruct residents, medical students and Health Sciences Center students in Emergency Medicine practices and protocols.  The selected incumbent should have excellent communication and clinical skills, as well as the ability to work independently.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.  Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.  This position will be located at Stony Brook Medicine or at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.
