Clinical Assistant/Clinical Associate (Director of Clinical Practice)

Required Qualifications

  • DDS/DMD degree from a CODA accredited dental school
  • Eligible for New York State Dental license.
  • Proficiency in all facets of general dentistry including digital dentistry, CAD/CAM, and implant dentistry.
  • Experience in team settings at an academic teaching institution.
  • At least 5 years' experience in academic clinical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: Implement, assess, and evaluate the clinical and educational components with a focus on business acumen and organizational awareness.
  • A certificate of completion from a CODA accredited General Practice Residency or Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry.
  • Leadership role in team settings at an academic teaching institution.
  • Overseeing clinical faculty calibration and student mentorship programs. 
  • Experience in working with senior administration, university administration, and governing boards for dental education organizations.
  • Experience in leadership in professional organizations dedicated to dental education. 

Responsibilities & Requirements

Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine (SDM) seeks a Director of Clinical Practice with a record of administrative leadership in an academic clinic setting. They will be expected to:

  • Be innovative and collaborative and capable of bringing leadership to SDM clinical group (team) practice model.
  • Implement, assess, and evaluate the clinical and educational components with a focus on business acumen and organizational awareness.
  • Oversight clinical teaching of all aspects of contemporary general dentistry to dental students and residents.
  • Oversight clinical faculty calibration and student mentorship programs.
  • Facilitate a supportive and inclusive education and patient care environment that develops strong and supportive relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversight laboratory support services.
  • Support the communication of SDM clinical enterprise to our service communities.
  • Implement clinical policies and ensure compliance aligned with SBU, SBM, and SDM best practices.
  • Ensure alignment with CODA clinical education accreditation standards.
  • Participate in teaching roles and practice consistent with the area of expertise.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
