Assistant Professor of Practice
Required Qualifications
MFA in Theater Arts - Dramaturgy, Acting, or Directing. A strong record of excellence
in teaching (minimum of 3 years) the practice of theater or communication in higher
education settings. Experience with and an interest in the science of team science.
Experience using improvisational theater approaches in research-based curriculum development.
Knowledge of or experience with Alda Center courses and/or workshops. Experience
conducting workshops or teaching courses at the graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience collaborating with science communication content area experts and assessment
specialists. Experience with curriculum aimed at supporting interdisciplinary team
collaboration. Quality teaching of senior researchers and/or medical professionals.
Professional theater experience.
Responsibilities & Requirements
The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor
to serve as an improvisational theater curriculum design expert for a new project
focused on advancing best practices in Team Science Communication. The position will
advance the Simons Foundation's investment in supporting interdisciplinary team collaboration
through the design and delivery of research-based science communication training.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working on a team to design and advance
new science communication research that seeks to advance the best practices in interdisciplinary
team communication training; creation, development, and implementation of new curriculum
in the Alda Center; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses; managing this new
project supported by the Simons Foundation; and traveling to deliver workshops in
Alda Center and other relevant conferences. Candidates should hold an MFA in Theater
Arts (Dramaturgy, Acting, or Directing), have experience with and interest in the
science of team science, and have excellent teaching experience at the graduate level.
Special Notes
This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime
provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
