Assistant Professor of Practice in Team Science

Required Qualifications

PhD in Communication, Mass Communication, or other relevant field such as social psychology, psychology, sociology, political science, or education, or PhD in hand by July 1, 2019; knowledge of or experience with Alda Method; experience designing and conducting science communication research; experience with and interest in the science of team science; experience conducting workshops or teaching courses at the undergraduate level; experience in research-based curriculum development; ability to communicate research results to both expert and non-expert audiences; and excellent writing and presentation skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

High levels of proficiency in qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods social science or educational research; experience working in curriculum design teams; experience using improvisational theater in in teaching; experience conducting workshops or teaching courses at the graduate level and/or for experienced STEM professionals; proficiency in data and project management; ability to work as part of a team; willingness to travel and conduct Alda workshops nationally and internationally; and participation in other diversity programs either as an undergraduate or graduate and a commitment to promoting diversity in academe.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor to serve as research and curriculum design expert for a new project focused on advancing best practices in Team Science Communication. The position will advance the Simons Foundation's investment in supporting interdisciplinary team collaboration through the design and delivery of research-based science communication training. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and advancing new science communication research that seeks to advance best practices in interdisciplinary team communication training; creation, development, and implementation of new curriculum in the Alda Center; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses; management of this new project supported by the Simons Foundation; and traveling to deliver workshops in Alda Center and other relevant conferences. Candidates should hold a PhD, be actively involved in research on science communication, and have excellent teaching experience on the graduate level.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
