BA in English from St. John’s University, MA in English, C.W.Post. He taught in Central Islip High School for thirty-two years, retiring in June of 2000. He began teaching at Stony Brook University in 1997 instructing in English Methods. He has taught a Computers in English course at NY Institute of Technology at Westbury, and General Methodsand Student Teaching Seminar at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue.

Mr. Schiavo has been a Trustee (an elected position) of the North Shore Public Library for the past seven years, serving as President of the Board for the last six years. The North Shore Public Library services Shoreham, Wading River, Rocky Point and Sound Beach.

Mr. Schiavo has been moderating two book discussions a month for over seven years at the North Shore Library. One discussion is on classic world literature titles and the other is on classic British and American titles. A website with the list of the books already covered is posted below

Mr. Schiavo has held a Captain’s license from the Federal Department of Transportation for over thirty years, running fishing charters on the South Shore of Long Island. Consequently, he has come to be known by his students as “Capt. Willy,” and he is also known for his extensive collection of brightly colored Hawaiian shirts.
