I've been teaching at Stony Brook since 2005. I got my PhD at the University of California, Irvine, but I feel fortunate to have a job in the region where I grew up: I'm originally from Queens, and now live in Brooklyn with my wife and two sons. My primary specialization is somewhere at the intersection between early American and Native American studies: I recently published my first book, On Records: Delaware Indians, Colonists, and the Media of History and Memory. It's about the ways different communities - including scholarly ones - remember a history of colonization. I'm now working on another book, on the role of literacy in colonial encounters.
