Safety Warden Program
The Safety Warden Program, coordinated by The Office of Emergency Management in cooperation with Building Managers, Environmental Health & Safety, Fire Marshals, and University Police Officers, is part of a comprehensive Emergency Management effort that addresses the safety and security concerns of the Stony Brook campus during an emergency.
Ready to Respond
Safety Wardens are volunteers who assist with communications, evacuation, and coordination
of people during emergencies. They are organized by building to assist University
Police, Fire Marshals and other first responders. Safety wardens are provided training
on their local building emergency plan that identifies and addresses specific hazards,
fire alarm signals, evacuation and Shelter-In-Place procedures for a particular building.
Upon completion of training, these emergency volunteers receive Safety Warden vests
for identification, certificates of training and other vital equipment.
Additional information about the Safety Warden Program can be found in the Safety Warden Brochure and the HSC Safety Warden brochure (downloadable in Adobe PDF format).
