To All Students, Faculty, and Staff:

As part of our continued commitment to enhance safety measures on campus, the University Police Office of Emergency Management will be conducting the Fall 2016 semester test of our campus emergency notification systems todayWednesday, November 9th, 2016.  The tests will take place at 12:55 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. and each will last 60 seconds. These tests will include activation of the campus outdoor siren, activation of the building voice capable fire alarm systems, as well as testing of the LCD panel televisions throughout campus and computers equipped to receive Alertus desktop alert notifications. In an emergency, these enhanced systems allow pertinent instructions, such as evacuation or sheltering procedures, to be transmitted to building occupants in a variety of ways, including email. To ensure the timely delivery of email, please review your email registration in the University Electronic Post Office (EPO) system. You may review the EPO information at http://www.stonybrook.edu/epo

Also, all members of the campus community are encouraged to register for the SB Guardian personal safety system.  SB Guardian is a free app that is available for all students, faculty, and staff and turns your smart phone into a personalized "blue light phone" in your pocket. For more information visit  http://www.stonybrook.edu/emergency/alerts/guardian.html or go to the app store for your iPhone or Android device and search for "Rave Guardian."

Lastly, in light of several recent tragic events occurring on college and university campuses around the nation, we encourage all members of the campus community to go to http://www.stonybrook.edu/emergency/procedures/shooter.html and familiarize themselves with the video titled "Run, Hide, Fight", developed as part of a federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security and used widely in higher education emergency preparedness.   The University Police Department also offers training for students, faculty and staff to learn more about what you can do to be prepared and stay safe on campus.  Please contact the Community Relations Team at 632-3056 for more information.

**NOTE** Today's test is an exercise only and does not require evacuation or other action on the part of building occupants.
