The unique paradigm of Stony Brook’s Teacher and Leader Education program enables students to master their disciplines while discovering their pedagogy. The distributed model enables teacher and leader candidates to study alongside other scholars in their content fields as well as fellow educators. The program allows students to engage actively in the profession through field experience and reflectively as burgeoning educators as they develop a critical pedagogy. And students, of course, study with intensity under the guidance of experienced faculty to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions essential for success in the profession - the most important of which rings through these halls: it's about the kids in your class, it's about the kids in your class. This is to say, each graduate of a D-TALE program enters the field of Education with three themes ingrained in their practice: professional excellence and growth, community and diversity, and leadership and service.
D-TALE at Stony Brook University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), www.ncate.org . This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs.
