How do I make a gift to Stony Brook University?
Gifts of Cash, Check, or Credit Card
Gifts of this type are valuable because the funds are immediately available to the University for the purpose specified. Gifts should be made in U.S. currency and payable to the Stony Brook Foundation, Inc. Foreign currency will be valued at the U.S. dollar equivalent on the date the gift is received.

How can I be sure my gift supports the areas I designate?
You decide where your gift goes simply by designating the college, area or program of your choice. Whether you give via mail, make a pledge over the phone or donate online, your gift will support the area you choose. You can be assured that your gift will be used most effectively and in a manner consistent with your wishes.
Why does my gift to the University go to the Stony Brook Foundation?
The Stony Brook Foundation, a separately governed, 501(c)(3) charitable organization, exists to accept and manage private contributions for the benefit of Stony Brook University, including the Stony Brook University Medical Center, the Long Island State Veterans Home, and Stony Brook Southampton.
Are my gifts to Stony Brook University tax deductible?
All gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You should consult with your tax attorney/advisor concerning the deductibility of your gift. The Foundation's federal tax identification number is 11-6077945.
Will I receive a receipt or acknowledgment when I make a gift to the University?
Yes, when you make a gift of $5 and greater you will receive a tax receipt for your donation. In addition to a tax receipt, gifts to the University of $1,000 and greater will receive an acknowledgement letter.
Can my employer make a matching gift to the University?
If you are employed by a company or are a corporate retiree, you can often make your generous gift even more effective by checking to see if your employer has a matching gift program for charitable contributions. Taking the time to fill out a form from your company may double or even triple the amount of funding the Stony Brook Foundation ultimately receives.
