October 21, 7:00 - HeForShe: A Solidarity Movement for Gender Equality
Center for Global Studies and Human Development
Gerardo Porteny Backal, 20, is a youth leader and social innovator. He is a consultant for global youth engagement with UN Women's HeForShe solidarity movement. This campaign for gender equality intends to mobilize one billion men and boys as advocates and agents of change in ending the persistent inequalities faced by women and girls globally. The premise is that inequality is a human rights issue, the resolution of which will benefit everyone, socially, politically, and economically. Porteny will talk about the HeForShe Campaign and explain how every member of the Stony Brook community can get involved and make a difference. For more information about the lecture, contact Nadine Greenstein at email@example.com or (631) 632-7211.
December, 6, 10:00am - 4:00pm - Activist/Research Panel with Demand Abolition and Breakthrough
Stony Brook Manhattan • 101-113 East 27th Street • 3rd Floor
This event will feature two of our favorite activist groups, Breakthrough and Demand Abolition. They will first present their project, their ideas, and their vision. Then, we will have a little lunch and break into two groups, one for each organization, and the researchers who are motivated and interested will work on these ideas to develop related research projects. More information to follow.
