2016 State of CEAS Address: Making Science Fiction Come to Life at Stony Brook University

On September 21, 2016, faculty, staff, and students joined Dean Fotis Sotiropoulos from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) for his annual State of CEAS address.

From alumni highlights and research faculty awards to budgets and CEAS research and educational goals, attendees of the annual State of CEAS address were treated to an array of information that detailed the current state and new initiatives of CEAS.

In his first State of CEAS address since joining Stony Brook University in October 2015, it was easy to see that Sotiropoulos has found his footing here at Stony Brook. Clearly comfortable in front of the crowd of faculty, administrators, and students, he was excited to share all of the accomplishments over the last year, including strengthening the College’s commitment to women in STEM, leading faculty to strategic planning along cross-cutting research themes, creating engineering educational programs for a tech-driven society, mentoring “superstar” students, and building the college’s leadership and advancement teams.

As you will realize as you read through his actual presentation or view the video of the event, Sotiropoulos believes in transparency and sharing information. Prospective students and new faculty will be well-armed when making their decision to join the SBU community. Additionally, current members of the CEAS community can take pride in the new space created for the undergraduate student office, the great strides made in promoting the College and improving its rankings, and the startling research taking place as CEAS makes science fiction come to life.
