The Responding to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (R.E.D.I.) Project is an extension of the Stony Brook University Plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The R.E.D.I. Project provides the opportunity for administrators, faculty and staff to attend a six-hour diversity seminar. The seminar is geared toward increasing the understanding and celebration of the myriad of cultures that contribute to our diverse campus community.
The experiential seminar utilizes case study along with group activities as a means of enabling participants to recognize the manifestation and impact of implicit bias in a safe and supportive space.
It is in the spirit that "relationships are primary . . . ." that I encourage all to take advantage of this opportunity for self-reflection, self-awareness and growth. Doing so will serve to enhance our campus climate and reaffirm our appreciation and celebration of our diversity.
Robbye Kinkade serves as the Project Director for the Responding to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (R.E.D.I.) Project. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Health Technology and Management as well as the School of Medicine.
Ms. Kinkade has more than thirty years of professional experience in education and training. She has worked with health and human service professionals on both state and national levels, through the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). She has also conducted seminars, workshops and Training of Facilitator training for educational institutions including K-12 and Higher Education. Her trainings have included Cultural Competency for the Healthcare professionals, Cultural Competency for Educators, Stages of Change theory, Health Belief Model, HIV/AIDS, STDs, and Domestic Violence.
Ms. Kinkade has also developed and implemented health and cultural competence-related presentations and workshops for specific populations including adolescents, and community-based organizations.
Professor Kinkade teaches Cultural Competence, Community Health Education, Communications & Group Dynamics, and Social & Behavioral Aspects of Health at Stony Brook University.
