The High Energy Experimental Group secured a $11.4M grant from the National Science Foundation

The High Energy Experimental Group, under the leadership of Prof. John Hobbs, secured a $11.4M grant from the National Science Foundation for the upgrade of the ATLAS detector at CERN, Switzerland.  The Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Research Foundation made strong commitments of support to make this happen.  Stony Brook University, closely collaborating with Brookhaven National Laboratory, will lead the USA's contribution to the upgrade of one of the two particle detectors that recently discovered the "God Particle", the Higgs Boson.

Note that the High Energy Experimental Group had a long history of success, including a leading role in the discovery of the Top Quark at Fermilab.
