New Official Bookstore and Campus Store Provider Starting This Summer

TO STUDENTS:

Stony Brook University has teamed up with Follett as its official bookstore and campus store provider starting in the Summer 2018 semester. Amazon recently changed their business model nationwide and will no longer be providing customized course material services to higher education institutions.

After a national competitive bid process, Follett stood out as a partner that would offer a better program and expand opportunities for students to save on their overall costs of course materials including a textbook rental program that saves students up to 80% compared to buying new books and a varied selection of ebooks and other digital learning technologies.

Over the next few months, we will be transitioning to Follett as the official bookstore. To ensure continuity during the transition, students will still be able to order their new, used, rental and digital textbooks and other course materials through Amazon for the Spring 2018 semester.

Follett will also operate our campus stores, Shop Red West in the lower level of the Melville Library, and Shop Red East on Level 2, Room 310 of Health Sciences, where school supplies and official Stony Brook licensed goods and gear are available for purchase. The Seawolves MarketPlace in the Student Activities Center will undergo a renovation over the summer to open as a new coffee shop next fall. Stay tuned for more details!

The Amazon@StonyBrook pick up location will remain open in the lower level of the Melville Library, so students will still be able to take advantage of the convenient services that Amazon offers.

Follett will hold an Open House on March 7 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Wang Center to share with students all the benefits of this new service and answer any questions.

Please contact the Bookstore Liaison’s office at Bookstore_Liaison@stonybrook.edu or (631) 632-9828 should you have any questions. For updates on the transition process, please visit stonybrook.edu/bookstore.
