What kind of duties do you and your staff perform?

Every semester my staff and I work to ensure that students are able to view their "recommended and required" course material information at the time of registration on SOLAR. This process ensures that the University meets HEOA compliance under the Higher Education Opportunity Act. This information is also shared with Stony Brook University's office bookstore, Amazon, to ensure they have all course materials in time for the start of classes. I liaison with faculty and students in order for them to achieve the best experience possible when utilizing the services of Amazon @ Stony Brook. An additional layer of service we offer here is a "complementary" Desk Copy Service for faculty. The Bookstore Liaison's Office obtains desk copies from publishers for use to teach their class.

How can students save the most money when they shop for textbooks?

A used textbook is always the most cost effective way to obtain your textbook. But if cash flow is a problem there is the Textbook Rental Program, which allows students to get their books at a fraction of the cost of a new one. There are so many new options now available for students to take advantage of, I suggest they browse the website to learn the many different ways that they can purchase their textbooks, including new, used books, rental textbooks and eBooks. There is a different buying option for every student - you just have to know where to look!
