Eighteen (18) proposals have been accepted by the University for Review in the 2013 cluster hire cycle. Six include BNL participation. The cluster initiative is about hiring groups of faculty/scientists who come from different disciplines or organizations, including BNL, to work toward a common goal. Each cluster group consists of one or two leaders and about 3 to 5 junior appointments including joint appointments with BNL. BNL’s participation in programs which are of interest to its strategic plan typically consists of pledging junior joint appointments with at least a 20% cost share for BNL. Among last year’s winner was the Joint Institute for Photon Science (JPSI) for which a director is being recruited at this time.
The projects submitted for the 2013 cycle have already been reviewed and the results will be announced later this summer.
