Brookhaven Women in Science Offers Scholarship for Women Science Students
Applications are now being accepted for the Renate W. Chasman Scholarship for Women. This scholarship was established in 1986 to encourage women who have taken a break from formal education to resume their studies in natural sciences, engineering or mathematics. The winner will receive a one-time award of $2,000 from Brookhaven National Laboratory's Brookhaven Women in Science, a not-for-profit organization whose aim is to promote the advancement of women.
Candidates for the scholarship must be U.S. citizens or resident aliens who live in Nassau or Suffolk County, or in the boroughs of Brooklyn or Queens. They must be accepted for credit in a degree-oriented program at an accredited institution. Their program of study for 2010-2011 must be either at the junior or senior undergraduate level or at the first-year graduate level, to be pursued on a half-time or greater basis. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2011.

Stony Brook Scholarship Winner
BSA Scholarship
As part of its management of BNL, Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA), a company formed by a partnership between Battelle and Stony Brook University (SBU), awards 15 $2,500 college scholarships annually to children of eligible BNL employees and retirees. These scholarships are renewable for up to a total of four years of study toward an academic degree, based on satisfactory academic progress and enrollment.
This year, SBU President Samuel L. Stanley, Jr., who is committed to bringing the BNL and SBU communities closer together, has announced that the University will provide matching $2,500 scholarships for all winners of 2011 BSA scholarships who are admitted to SBU and enrolled as full-time freshmen undergraduates in the fall term immediately following high school graduation..

Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) Scholarship
Sponsored by Stony Brookâs Office of the Vice President for Brookhaven National Laboratory Affairs (OVPBNLA), a total of $10,000 in scholarships is available to WISE students who are in their second academic year and above. Scholarships will be given in the range of $1,000-$3,500.
Complete applications for scholarships must be received by the WISE office by March 20, 2011.
Scholarships will be decided by a committee made up of BWIS (Brookhaven Women in Science), the Office of Education at BNL, and WISE faculty and staff. Awards will be given to full-time students who are enrolled in WISE. Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2.
