Heejeong Sohn joined the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies in spring 2003 as an adjunct lecturer to teach Korean language courses as well as an Introduction to Korean Culture. She earned her B.A. in English Linguistics from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Korea and M.A. in Arts Administration from the University of Oregon. She received her Ph.D. in May 2014, with a dissertation titled “Consuming Modernity: Photography in Pre-colonial Korea, 1876-1910.” Her research topics include Modern Korea through visual documents, the imperial body politics in East Asia, modern photography in Asia and visual discourses of missionary activities.
