Anand Venkatkrishnan

Anand Venkatkrishnan is a doctoral student in the Department of Religion at Columbia University. He received an MA in South Asian Religions from Columbia University (2012) and a BA in Classics (Greek and Latin) from Stanford University (2010). His dissertation studies the impact of the "bhakti" traditions of Vaiṣṇava devotion on orthodox systems of Sanskrit scriptural hermeneutics--specifically, Mīmāṃsā and Advaita Vedānta--in medieval and early modern India. His research interests include the intersection between popular religious movements and scholarly pedagogy, the history of Sanskrit knowledge-systems, and Indian intellectual history more broadly.
