The Undergraduate Program in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
The Applied Math & Stat major is a professional B.S. program that prepares graduates for quantitative careers in business and industry with a toolkit of applicable mathematical techniques and problem-solving strategies primarily drawn from probability and statistics, operations research, and actuarial mathematics. Most AMS majors start at Stony Brook interested in another major and, after taking some required courses in AMS, decide to switch to AMS or double major with AMS. Students can plan programs of study with concentrations in different areas of applied mathematics and statistics.
