Sonali Bahl is a senior Biochemistry major from Newbury Park, California. Sonali chose the Academic Peer Advisor internship to expose herself to new people and work with the student body. Aside from being an Academic Peer Advisor, Sonali is conducting cancer-related research in the Chemistry Department and is an active member of Golden Key, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Sigma Beta Honor Society. In five years, Sonali plans on working for a pharmaceutical company. Her favorite hobby is cross-stitching; she's been doing it for ten years! She is determined yet caring and if she could have any job in the world, she would be a Bollywood singer because music is relaxing to her. Sonali's favorite spot on campus is her dorm room and her favorite classes at Stony Brook so far are SOC 247 (Sociology of Gender) and CHE 327 (Organic Chemistry Lab). Her role models are her parents and if she was given one day to do anything she wanted, she would take some time out to relax.

Sabrina Carter is a junior, majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Japanese Studies. Her hometown is South Burlington, VT. She chose the APA Internship because she loved working with students as an SSO Fellow and wanted to continue her involvement with students and staff. She's very involved as an out-of-state admission volunteer, STARS mentor, and an RSP desk monitor. She describes herself as "peppy, funny, sentimental, kind, awesome, and unique." Since the age of 11, Sabrina's favorite hobbies have involved drawing and dancing. In five years, she wants to be in Dental School and fluent in Japanese. Her favorite classes are Japanese and Organic Chemistry while her favorite spots on campus are Staller and Roth Pond. If she could have any job in the world, she'd like to either be a dentist or a wedding planner. If she could do anything in the world, she'd "go to the zoo and touch all exotic animals." Her mom is her role model.

Diane DeSimone is a History major from Manorville. She is a senior, President of the Non-Traditional Student/Adult Learner Association, and the E-board Events Coordinator for Phi Alpha Theta. She's excited to be part of the APA Internship because she wants "to gain knowledge of advising and to help other students achieve their academic goals." She describes herself as "enthusiastic, outgoing, determined, and compassionate." Her favorite hobbies are horseback riding, crocheting, reading, and playing computer games. If given one day to do anything she wants, Diane would spend it with her family watching movies and eating popcorn. In five years, she plans on pursuing a History Master's and PhD. Diane's favorite spot on campus is the SAC Mall and her favorite class is Perspectives in Hebrew Bible and Early Middle Ages. Her dream job is a History Professor at SBU because "I love history and have had great Professors."

Libby Gioia is a junior from Albany, New York and she is a Psychology major with a minor in Anthropology. She chose the Academic Peer Advisor internship in order to provide herself with an opportunity to help people, as well as get more acquainted with Stony Brook. Libby is active on campus and she holds positions as a Resident Assistant, Quad Office Assistant, and a member of the Club Lacrosse team. She sees herself in graduate school within the next five years, and is considering the University of Hartford. Libby is bubbly, helpful, and caring and her favorite hobby is tennis; she's been playing for sixteen years! If she could have any job in the world, she would be a food critic because she loves food as well as trying new things. Her favorite spot on campus is the Humanities atrium and her favorite class so far at Stony Brook was SOC 340 (Sociology of Human Reproduction). Libby's role models include other student leaders on campus, as well as anyone she can learn something from. If she was given one day to do anything she wanted, she would take time out to relax.

Oksana Kachmarchyk is a junior from Levittown, New York and she is a Business major with a minor in Writing. She became an Academic Peer Advisor to develop herself as a person and take advantage of the leadership opportunity as well as help students. Oksana is outgoing, supportive, and responsible. In five years, she would like to see herself making a living out of putting smiles on children's faces while working for Disney. This would be her ideal job, although she can also imagine herself as a writer due to her life-long hobby of reading. Her role model is her mother and she is a member of both the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and the Residence Hall Association (RHA). She is also the Hall Council President of Hand College in Tabler Quad. If she was given one day to do anything she wanted, she would go skydiving and have a nice Italian dinner. Oksana's favorite class at Stony Brook so far was HUI 234 (Introduction to 20th Century Drama) which she was a TA for and her favorite spot on campus is the Staller steps.

Anne Liberti hails from Lake Grove. She is a senior majoring in Environmental Studies. She was interested in the APA internship because she is a transfer student and wants to help other transfer students. She describes herself as "caring, helpful, and hardworking." She is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Her favorite spot on campus is the garden behind the Physics building and her favorite class is basically any Environmental class! Anne wishes to "travel to the Adirondack Mountains" and her dream job would be to work as a Forester in a National Park because of her love for the environment. In five years, she sees herself in Graduate School pursuing Forestry. She loves "doing puzzles" and her family members are her role models.

Lillian Luu is a Psychology major from Ozone Park, NY. She is a highly active junior: a CHOICE peer educator, and a member of SHAC, LEAD, GOLD, RSP, and the Martial Arts Association (MAA). Her favorite activities are practicing Tae Kwon Do and Archery as well as participating in and creating outreach projects. She describes herself as "motivational, energetic, happy, and caring." This is why she wants to continue her outreach efforts as a CHOICE peer educator as an APA Intern. Lillian's favorite spot on campus is the Campus Rec Center and if she could do anything the world, she would take classes in many types of martial arts. Her dream job is to educate others about the importance of healthy eating and mental health. Problems of Evil, a philosophy course, is her favorite class at SBU. Although she doesn't have a set role model, she admires everyone because she knows there's always something to learn from everyone she meets.

Michelle Nguyen is a junior from Vietnam and she is an Economics major with a minor in Business. Becoming an Academic Peer Advisor was a way for Michelle to both get more involved and help people. Michelle is friendly and determined; in five years she plans on pursuing an MBA degree and working as a financial advisor. Her favorite hobby is doing Zumba at the Campus Recreation center and she's been doing it for two years. If she could have any job in the world, she would be a bakery owner because she loves baking and desserts. Her role models are her parents and she hopes to follow in their footsteps. Michelle is a secretary for the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) and if she was given one day to do anything she wanted, she would take a baking/cooking class. Her favorite class so far at Stony Brook was BUS 330 (Intro to Finance) and her favorite spots on campus are the Staller steps, Starbucks, and the Rec Center.

Kaitlyn O'Halloran is a junior from Ronkonkoma, New York and she is a Political Science major with minors in Spanish and International Studies. She chose to apply to the Academic Peer Advisor internship program after her ADV 101 instructor suggested it to her. Kaitlyn is ambitious, approachable, organized and her favorite hobby is playing the piano; she's been playing it for fifteen years! In five years, she sees herself in either law or graduate school and she is a member of the Pre-Law Society. She also works at the campus bookstore and does lots of volunteer work. If she could have any job in the world, Kaitlyn would be a professional traveler and go across the world and experience various cultures and environments; if she was given one day to do anything she wanted, she would go to Ireland. Her favorite class at Stony Brook so far was HUS 255 (Modern Spain) and her favorite spot on campus is the Staller steps. Her role models are her parents.

Ashley Rizzotto is a junior from Brooklyn, NY with a Sociology major and a Health and Wellness minor. She is currently torn between earning a PhD in Sociology and going into Higher Education; "the APA Internship is a chance for her to get exposure in this field and to strengthen her role in the campus community." She's a CHILL peer educator, SHAC volunteer, TA, Orientation Leader, and Tour Guide. She describes herself as "enthusiastic, punctual, honest, energetic, and motivational." In five years, she sees herself completing her graduate education in Sociology and involved in Higher Education. Her favorite hobby is crocheting, which she's been enjoying for the past 2.5 years. If she could have any job in the world, she'd have her own show on Travel Network so she can travel and eat food! She also dreams of becoming a Sociology Professor. Her favorite classes at SBU are Sociology of Human Reproduction and Sociology of Medicine while her favorite spot on campus is the Staller Steps. If given the opportunity to do anything in the world, Ashley would "go to an international food and cultural fair in NYC." Her role models are her grandmother ("who finds joy in the simplicity of everything") and her peers.

Chris Rosa is a senior from Middletown, New York and he is a Mathematics major. As an Academic Peer Advisor, he hopes to gain skills that will help him in his pursuit of his dream job, becoming a Mathematics professor at a university. His goal is to be more involved in student decision making, and help them develop career paths. In five years, he sees himself having completed a graduate Mathematics program and working at a community college. Chris is driven, yet caring and approachable. His favorite hobby is dancing and he's been doing it since his junior year of high school. He is a Resident Hall Association Representative and will become a Resident Assistant in Lauterbur Hall next year. Chris' role models include Gregory Bennett, Christina Stavrou, one of our former Senior APA's, and his parents. If he was given one day to do anything he wanted, he would go shopping with a credit card that couldn't be maxed out! His favorite class at Stony Brook so far was HUF 211 (French Cinema) and his favorite spot on campus is the bamboo forest near West Apartments.

Harneet Sahni was born in Delhi, India and raised in both Richmond Hill and Williston Park, NY. She is a junior double majoring in Psychology and Sociology. She was eager to be part of the APA Internship because she's interested in serving as a TA, shadowing advisors, getting more connected with SBU and in pursuing Higher Education. She was part of the Sikh Student Association and served as a Research Assistant in Prof. Zelinsky's Cognitive Psychology lab. In five years, she hopes to apply to a PhD program at either Columbia or Berkeley. She describes herself as "hyper (yet shy), hardworking and friendly." Harneet's hobbies include watching movies, singing, and playing the harmonium (she was classically trained from the age of six!). Staller Steps and Jasmine are her favorite spots on campus while her favorite classes are Drugs and the Mind and Global Perspective. Her dream job would be a clinical child psychologist at a hospital or school and if she could do anything in the world, she'd build a school in India and spend time with hospitalized children. She looks up to religious figures and her mom.

Paul Savary is a junior from Oyster Bay, New York majoring in Economics. With aspirations to become the CEO of a car company, he hopes to gain management skills that will benefit him in his career goals and his future in business. In five years, he sees himself working for a major corporation and living on either the East or West Coasts. Paul is determined and outgoing, yet easy-going and patient. He is fascinated by cars and his favorite hobby is to research and learn more about car models of all kinds. Paul enjoys going to amusement parks and if he was given a day to do anything he wanted, he would go to Six Flags and not have to wait on a single line for a roller coaster! His role models are his parents and Jamie Dick, his current boss. His favorite class at Stony Brook so far was BUS 111 (Intro to Business) and his favorite spot on campus is North Campus.

Irene Vogiatzis is a junior from Mount Sinai, New York majoring in Biology/Neuroscience major with a minor in Music. In five years, Irene sees herself in medical school chasing her dream of becoming a physician specializing in neurology. She chose the Academic Peer Advising internship in hopes of developing her leadership skills and learning more about Stony Brook. Irene is an upbeat, outgoing cognitive psychology research assistant who also happens to be the president of the Neuroscience Axis. Her favorite hobby is playing the violin and she's been doing it for thirteen years! If she was given one day to do anything she wanted, she would run a marathon or participate in the Ironman competition. Her parents are her role models and her favorite class at Stony Brook so far was BIO 203 (Cellular & Organ Physiology). Her favorite spots on campus are her research assistant's office and the Staller Center recital hall.

Tyler Wilkinson is a junior from Annapolis, Maryland majoring in Biology and minoring in Music and Chemistry. He is compassionate, motivated, and friendly and in five years he sees himself studying in medical school. He enjoys helping others and his goal is to become a physician. He chose the Academic Peer Advising internship in hopes of interacting and working with a whole new group of individuals. Tyler's favorite hobby is playing the saxophone and he's been doing it since he was seven years old! He volunteers in the hospital, participates in the Lacrosse Club, and assists in Chemistry research. If he was given one day to do anything he wanted, he would use the day to explore New York City. His role models are his parents and his favorite class at Stony Brook so far was EGL 260 (Mythology). His favorite spots on campus include the Recreation Center, inner Tabler Quad, and the Staller Steps.

Hanna Zhuang is a junior, majoring in Sociology and minoring in History. She's from New York City and she chose the APA Internship because she was looking for an experience in Higher Education. She describes herself as "caring, helpful, encouraging" and wants "to make an impact on people's lives and be happy" in the next five years. She enjoys writing poetry, stories, and reflection pieces since middle school. At SBU, she was involved in the Model UN and served as a TA for SOC 340. Her favorite class at SBU is Sociology of Human Reproduction with Prof. Catherine Marrone and her favorite spot on campus is the square stepped area by the Earth and Space building. If given the chance, Hanna would love to have superpowers to fly around the world! Her role model is her mom because "she is supportive and there for me."

heading Mohammed Ahmad is a junior who is both a Political Science and a Biology major. He’s from Stony Brook, NY and was motivated to apply for the APA internship because it would offer him “experience, build connections and make Stony Brook more exciting,” he says. He expects to improve his “communication skills, critical thinking skills, planning, and team work.” Mohammed is in the Army Reserve, and a member of the pre-med society, and the Muslim Student Association. He expects to be in medical school in 5 years and describes himself as “ambitious, brave, exciting, creative, loyal, and honest.” His favorite hobbies are going to the shooting range (since he’d joined the Army a few years ago) and running that he says he’s done forever. Mohammed’s favorite classes are Chemistry and Biology classes and his favorite spots on campus are the library and Starbucks.

Qurat-ul-ain Gulamhussein is a junior majoring in Psychology and minoring in English and Middle Eastern Studies. In five years, she dreams of pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Although many of Stony Brook's opportunities have enthralled her, "The APA Internship has been the most rewarding experience of all." As a Senior APA, Ain hopes to further develop her interpersonal skills and meet new people. She describes herself as "friendly and determined" and shares that reading fiction and writing poetry are her hobbies. Healthy Psychology is her favorite class at SBU and the Atrium, her favorite spot. Her mother is her role model. If given one day to spend to her liking, she would travel the world, starting from Turkey!

heading Josh Streich is thrilled to be continuing his work with the academic and transfer advising office as a senior APA. A senior majoring in psychology, he hopes to attend graduate school with the hopes of getting his masters in social work. In an ideal world, Josh would love to work with college students. This internship was very pivotal for Josh in solidifying his desires to work in a college setting post-graduation.Josh describes himself as a warm-hearted jokester, always looking to brighten someone's day. His favorite class thus far has been Sociology of Sexual Reproduction and his favorite spot on campus is the Staller Steps. If given one day to do whatever he wanted, he would play baseball for a major league team.

Xingjia "Ginger"Tang is an international student from China, a Math Education major planning to graduate in spring 2014. Ginger expects to gain experience for the teaching profession by learning how to be a mentor and gain professional advising experience with her involvement in the APA internship as well as to learn from other APAs about advising and communication skills. She is a student manager in SAC dinning, substation manager at RSP, and she used to be an e-board member in West Hall Council. In five years, Ginger expects to be a high school mathematics teacher with a family. She describes herself as "funny, reliable, random, approachable, and responsible." Her favorite hobbies since she was 14 years old are cooking and dancing. The Wang Center is her favorite spot on campus and Fundamentals of Drawing her favorite class at SBU. Her hero is her mother.
