PROBATION

Your academic standing is PROBATION if you earned a cumulative GPA less than 2.0. Please be aware that an advising hold has been placed on your record.

There are 2 pathways to Probation:

  1. Students on First Semester Warning who earn less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA at the end of their second semester, but at least a 2.0 second semester GPA (Fall 2017) are placed on Probation.
  2. Continuing students in good academic standing who earn less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the Fall 2017 semester are placed on Probation.

In order to return to Stony Brook for the Spring 2018 semester, you are required to complete ONE of the following two options:

Walk in to see an advisor

Watch the info session video

Both options will help you understand your academic standing level and identify strategies to improve your academic performance. Students who elect to see an advisor in person may simply walk in to the office; students will be seen on a first-come first-served basis. There is no need to call Academic and Transfer Advising Services to schedule an appointment.  Please note that walk-in advising is NOT available on the January Transfer Orientation dates as noted on our Google Calendar

If you choose to review the academic standing online information session, your hold will be removed, but you are strongly encouraged to follow-up with an advisor during the course of the Spring 2018 semester.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

*Until you review the online session or meet with an advisor, you will be blocked from making Winter/Spring 2018 schedule changes and from registering for classes in future semesters.
