Office of Sustainability / Recycling & Resource Management
The Stony Brook University Office of Sustainability operates the Department of Recycling & Resource Management in order decrease our University's carbon footprint, minimize our environmental impact, increase operating efficiency, satisfy compliance regulations and to make it easier for our community to recycle. The Department provides essential recycling services and infrastructure to the Stony Brook University community, including the pickup of many recyclables and deployment of receptacles.
The university recycles all of the following materials:
- Paper
- Bottles & Cans, Including Plastics #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7
- Scrap Metals
- Tires
- Vehicle Motor Oil
- Wood Debris & Yard Waste
- Office Equipment
- Clothing
- Construction & Demolition Debris
- E-Waste (Used Cell Phones, Computers, Electronics, etc.)
- Fluorescent Bulbs
- Wood Pallets
- Mattresses
- Residential Furniture
- Mercury
- Vegetable Oil
- Printer Toner & Ink
- Carpet
- Ceiling Tiles
- Pre-Consumer Food
