Shiming Hu Memorial Awards & Scholarships

The China Studies program offers several competitive annual Awards and Scholarships, established in memory of the late Dr. Shiming Hu, Distinguished Teaching Professor, and founder of Chinese Studies at Stony Brook

Guidelines:

Nominations may come from any member of the campus community -- faculty, staff, or student.

Students of any background are eligible and welcome to apply for these awards; applicants/nominees are NOT required to minor in China Studies, nor to major in Asian & Asian American Studies.

Please provide all the information requested on the reverse, sign and date.

Return completed forms to Dept. of Asian and Asian American Studies (Humanities Building, 1046) by March 1.

For Nominators: Please attach a Letter of Recommendation in support of the candidate you nominate for these Awards and Scholarships. The China Studies Program will contact the nominee for any additional information required.

For Applicants: Please include the following supporting documents:

Please have at least one letter of Recommendation submitted on your behalf under separate cover by someone who can speak directly to your interest in Chinese Studies and/or your leadership activities with respect to involvement with Asian interest organizations on campus.

Application/Nomination for Which Category:

Leadership Award

Applicants/Nominees for the Shiming Hu Memorial Leadership Award must be graduating seniors attending Stony Brook University, who have played a significant leadership role in an Asian interest club or organization on campus.

Chinese Studies Scholarship:

Applicants/Nominees for the Shiming Hu Memorial Chinese Studies Scholarship must be upper-division (U3 or U4) students attending Stony Brook University who have displayed excellence in the study of Chinese language or culture.
