ALUMNI REUNION - JUNE, 2003

The weekend was a great success. Almost 250 people attended the opening Luau, and many long-standing friendships - some of over 40 years duration - were renewed. The number of Chemistry alumni who attended the joint Chemistry and Physics reception was small but vigorous. It was a special pleasure to talk over the early days of the Department with Steve (B.S., 1963) Heller, Shelly (B.S., 1964) (Silverman) Heller and Ken Gross (B.S., 1964) and his wife. Also, a more recent alumnus, Minghui Wang (Ph.D., 2002, Dan Raleigh) joined the festivities.

The event was well attended by departmental faculty, including several who were "founders". Barry Gordon, Francis Bonner, Dick Solo and Bob Schneider exchanged anecdotes and stories about the old days at Planting Fields. Others included, Bob Kerber, Steve Koch, Joe Lauher, Iwao Ojima, Kathlyn Parker, and Arthur Suits. The physics faculty were also present in large numbers and exchanged recollections with both their own and with chemistry alumni.

We are grateful to Joe Lauher for having captured some of the moments in pictures and reproduce some of them below.
