Hands-On Program

A program for middle school students who LOVE math!

Dates: June 29 - July 2, 2009
Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Fee: $150 for the four session program
Eligibility: For students in entering 7th or 8th grade in September 2009
Maximum Enrollment: 20 students
Instructors: Tina Yang and Christina Perico

During this one-week course, students will explore some of the different topic areas in the world of mathematics. Through the use of hands-on fun activities, students will gain an appreciation of mathematics that is pragmatic and useful. Why not join us to view math in a different perspective through fun and knowledgeable lessons?

Day One - Mathmagic Trick: Unveil the secrets of the math magic tricks and develop one magic trick on your own. (Number Theory)
Day Two - The Secret Agent: Decode the secret messages and create your personal message. (Cryptography)
Day Three - Puzzles, Puzzles­ and more puzzles: Solve the puzzles and generate an interesting puzzle. (Problem Solving)
Day Four - A Day in Las Vegas: Explore some games and their winning strategies. Also design and play a game of your creation. (Probability)
