Trout stream habitat assesment

Campers will experience the challenge of visiting a classic Long Island glacial spring fed stream, to assess the streams' overall condition and its specific suitability as a sustainable trout stream. A macro-invertebrate (insect) sampling will be initiated and the resulting data regarding specific specie abundance and distribution will be evaluated to determine the streams' overall quality.

Additionally testing will be done (i.e., water temperature, Ph, dissolved oxygen, nutrient levels, stream flow, depositional formations, vegetative species present. Stream Morphology assessed and classified, recommendations may be formulated regarding management practices to be implemented.

Participants will be provided a field trip to the Connetquot River State Park for a day of trout fishing using flies, they have tied.

Catch and release will be an option as well as returning to camp with the days catch and be prepared for dinner.
