Ornithology
|
Our feathered friends are very sensitive to and affected by small amounts of environmental pollutants. The primary food source of birds is largely environmental such as insects, seeds, grains, nuts, tiny baitfish, crustaceans, etc. All of these food sources absorb and assimilate harmful substances as they mature and are ultimately consumed by birds. We will collaborate with the Eastern Long Island Audubon Association utilizing materials available through the Cornell University Ornithology lab. Campers will participate in constructing feeders, birdhouses and studying the many types of nests that various species of birds construct. All participants will be exposed to organizations that have been formed to foster our interest, or hobby for birding. |
