Campers participating in this program will be afforded the opportunity to be engaged in studying the dynamics of a Coastal Marine Wetland system, examining the inter-relationships (Ecology) of plants and animals that inhabit Salt Marsh environments. Participants will become actively engaged in specifically focusing on the various shellfish such as oysters, clams, scallops, and mussels that have become an integral part of Long Island's history and economy. Campers exposed to Cornell Cooperative Extensions innovative community shellfish production program known as S.P.A.T. (Southold Project in Aquaculture Training) will thoroughly engage campers in this unique hands-on experience. Campers will also have the opportunity of sampling various edible dishes prepared from their harvested shellfish.
