We strive to produce and teach the knowledge that will solve human problems both locally and globally, and thereby become a source of intellectual capital for our community, our state, our nation and our world.

CENTER FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Center for Inclusive Education

  • Increase enrollment and retention of promising graduate students from underrepresented backgrounds through identification of grant opportunities and partnerships with other institutions
  • Fellowships for underrepresented groups
  • Seed grants for underrepresented graduate researchers

GRADUATE SCHOOL INNOVATION

Graduate School Innovation

  • Support interdisciplinary collaborations to advance graduate study, especially research in new and unique cross-disciplinary areas with recent cluster faculty hiring
  • Support for entrepreneurship in the graduate arts, through partnerships with Southampton Graduate Arts, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and College of Business
  • Graduate support for humanities and arts programs, including academic fellowships and summer arts scholarships

GRADUATE STUDENT EXCELLENCE

Graduate Student Excellence

  • Raise current use funds for graduate/undergraduate mentoring program
  • Raise current use funds for Graduate Teaching Fellows to create a community of graduate students interested in teaching as a career, mentored by faculty
  • Raise endowment or current use funds to support graduate students’ first year, especially in the sciences before they can access research or training grant funds

DEAN'S FUND FOR EXCELLENCE

Dean’s Fund for Excellence

  • Develop plan for raising significant annual funds to robustly support the dean’s fund for excellence, allowing the Graduate School Dean the flexibility to respond to critical opportunities as they arise
  • Flexible funds can also be used to support a program that allows for graduate students to feel part of a larger community on campus, creating a sense of community across disciplines

Several Stony Brook graduate programs saw notable placement in the 2016 edition of US News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” publication—including a 76-spot leap in the rankings by the School of Nursing and jumps by the School of Engineering and our online graduate business programs.
