Time Option Payment Plan (TOPP)

Stony Brook recognizes the need for helping parents and students cope with the expenses of higher education. To this end, the University offers the Time Option Payment Plan (TOPP), a program that allows you to make equal and consecutive payments throughout the semester.

Since the plan is not a loan, there are no interest or finance charges. You pay only a $40.00 non-refundable application fee to help defray the program's administrative expenses.

The deadline to enroll in the 4-payment Time Option Payment Plan for the Spring 2012 semester is January 15, 2012. The deadline to enroll in the 3-payment Time Option Payment Plan for the Spring 2012 semester is February 15, 2012.

Enrollment is done through your SOLAR account under "CAMPUS FINANCIAL SERVICES" to enroll for the Spring 2012 semester. Please remember that your initial TOPP payment must be made at that time for the enrollment to be valid. You may also complete the TOPP application and worksheet, mailing it with the application fee and first payment to:

Enrollment in the Spring 2012 TOPP must be in effect by February 15, 2012. Prior balances must be paid in full before joining the current semester TOPP program.

Balances not covered by this agreement must be paid or properly deferred by the University's published due dates. You may only include financial aid in your TOPP calculations if you have accepted "My Financial Aid Awards" in SOLAR. Financial aid must appear as a valid deferment on your student account before you can include it on your TOPP calculation.

Important: Enrolled TOPP participants will receive Solar messages confirming successful enrollment and concerning the payment due dates.

Charges relating to room, meal plan, or course load may adjust your student account balance. TOPP contracts are automatically adjusted for any changes to your student account.

Students who have previously enrolled in the TOPP program and decide to use the TOPP program for the Spring 2012 semester must re-enroll through SOLAR.

You can have your charges distributed equally over three or four months, depending on when you enroll. The application fee for the Spring 2012 semester is $40.00 and will be calculated in your first payment.

After your first payment, all payments are due on the 15th day of each month; the final payment is due on April 15, 2012.

Please note: If you miss a monthly payment or do not pay the correct amount, you will be removed from the Time Option Payment Plan and your account will be charged a late payment fee of up to $50.00 per month. Late payment fees may be cumulative up to $200.00 if further semester charges are not paid in full by the next billing due date.
