College of Arts & Sciences

  1. Review the list of Major, Minors, and Special Programs at Stony Brook located on page 3 of the 2005-07 Undergraduate Bulletin. For details and links to each academic department's website, go to http://www.stonybrook.edu/ugadmissions/programs/
  2. Select the major that most interests you, and one in which you believe you will do well academically. If you are unsure of what major to select, call the Academic & Pre-Professional Advising Center at (631) 632-7082, option 1, and make an appointment to speak with an academic advisor.
  3. Once you have selected your intended major, familiarize yourself with the major course requirements and sequence of courses, such that you can map out your plan for completing your Stony Brook degree. Always consult the Undergraduate Bulletin for requirements and course descriptions.
  4. Contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies or Department Advisor (see list included in this binder) to discuss and review your intended major. You can call or e-mail your major advisor for an appointment, at which time you should review your transfer credits applicable toward the major and review the major requirements checklist. Bring official transcripts of any college-level transfer courses applicable to the major, as well as syllabi and course descriptions.
  5. Complete the Major Minor Declaration Form, which is included in this binder. Be sure and have the Director of Undergraduate Studies or Department Advisor sign the form.
  6. Submit the Major Minor Declaration Form to the Registrar’s Office, 276 Administration, and check your Stony Brook official transcript on the SOLAR system to ensure it was recorded correctly.
