Stony Brook AGEP, under the auspices of the CIE, hosted its third annual conference on the Stony Brook campus called "A Gathering of Science Scholars National Conference: Access for Underrepresented Students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines." featured comprehensive experiences to expose undergraduate students to graduate school opportunities and careers in research and teaching and provided important opportunities for skill development. Outstanding speakers who are recognized and celebrated leaders in the country engaged the participants in focused and informative discussions in order to raise awareness about issues related to broader participation and academic success in the STEM disciplines.

The research symposium featured over 60 poster and 6 oral presentations, by undergraduate and graduate students, all judged by a team of on campus and visiting faculty.

The networking session provided students the opportunity to explore graduate programs as well as corporations and laboratories. There were over 25 booths of, which 11 were Stony Brook graduate programs.

This conference provides visibility, strategic recruitment, and strengthens the campus culture which embraces diversity and academic excellence.

This years funding for the Gathering of Science Scholars was provided by Stony Brook AGEP, The National Science Foundation, Directorate for Education and Human Resources, and Peterson's - A Nelnet Company.

Current SUNY AGEP students, Rose Saint Fleur and Akua Bonsra provide graduate school information to an undergraduate conference participant.
